Childhood Group

The Esbart’s “childhood group” was set up at the beggining of the academic course 1969-70.This group is and has been the provider of the Esbart’s “raw material”. We must say out loud that it has been the motor which has “moved” us on. Year after year, the “childhood group” formed by children of the members of the “Centre cultural el Social” and directed by volunteers from the Esbart’s “Cos de Dansa”, provides a constant new wave of dancers.
To be a part of this group, one must be a member of the Centre Cultural el Social or be a child of one, and being up to date in the payment of the membership card.
The enrolment has to be done from the 15th to the 30th September at the Social Secretary office.
The course starts at the beginning of October, and finishes at the beginning of July, just after Terrassa’a “Festa Major”.At the weekend previous to Sant Joan (24th June), the end of course perfomance is played, were the dancers get the “diploma” corresponding to their age and grade: “Espardenya Groga”, “Espardenya Blava” or “Espardenya Verda”.

Espardenya Groga

Juvenile Group

In 1977 three extraordinady facts happened: The end of cycle of the first kids from the Childhood Group, the arriving of a group of young dancers and the existence of a many people group in the “cos de danda” with good artistic preparation to present a vast performance. This fact created the necessity of a new group in which the dancers got ready to reach the Cos de Dansa. That’s how the Juvenile Group was created.
Ever since, when the dancers reach the age of 12, the get the “espardenya Verda” diploma, they leave the Childhood group (where they may have been since they were just 4) and get into the Juvenile Group. How long they stay in this group deppends on some factors: on the one hand we have the physical differences between some teenagers. On the other hand, we have the different technical level acquired during their time at the Childhood Group deppennding on personal qualities and how long they’ve been dancing. There’s also the needs of the Cos de Dansa, which vary deppending on the historical oment, and which during the more than 50 years of history have been of all kinds. The Juvenile group usually goes to the performances along with the Cos de Dansa, taking part in some dances. This creates, further to getting experience, ties between both groups, which then make it easier to get definitely integrated in the Cos de Dansa when the time has come.
